    1986年寒亭城区面积为3.51平方公里，其中村庄占0.78平方公里；人口为26000人，其中非农业人口18455人，临时工、合同工3200人，农村人口4345人；工业企业59处，其中市属2处，区属23处，寒亭镇办14处。村办20处；财贸、文教、卫生、科技和公共事业也已有相应规模。据上述情况，潍坊市总体规划确定寒亭城区为重点发展的工业城镇，要逐步形成以轻纺、化工为主体的综合性工业基地。到1990年人口达到3万。至2000年人口为7万，其中非农业人口6万，农业人口1万。
