　1994年，全区人口出生率9.36‰，人口自然增长率3.30‰，总人口14.46万人。建区后，人口自然增长率呈下降趋势。2001年和2003年人口自然增长率出现负增长。2003年，全区人口出生率4.94‰，人口自然增长率-1.69‰。总人口5.55万户、18.12万人。其中，一孩家庭2.13万个，领取“独生子女父母光荣证”的家庭1.93万个，占一孩家庭的90.73%。男女性别比为102.2：100，人口密度712人/平方公里。
