    建国后，境内城镇、非农业人口占总人口比例愈来愈大，乡村、农业人口比例愈来愈小。1958年，城镇、非农业人口分别由1957年的1.92、2.20万人猛增到3.10、5.32万人，而后又大幅度减缩，至1962年分别减至1.56、1.77万人。“六五”期间落实知识分子政策、照顾离退休老干部等家属农转非，使城镇非农业人口大幅度增长，1985年分别达到6.02、9.75万人。随着乡镇企业的迅猛发展，乡镇企业职工改按非农业人口统计，1988年，城镇、非农业人口已分别达到8.20、21.01万人，占总人口的9.44％、24.19％。
