    建国初期，县内统计工作由财政委员会兼管。1953年3月设立统计科。1955年1月，与计委合并为计划统计科；次年6月，恢复统计科；1958年3月，复与计划部门合并改建为计划统计局；1962年1月与计划委员会分开，设立统计局。1970年3月，统计工作由莱阳县革命委员会生产指挥部计划办公室设专人管理。1976年，统计工作由县计划委员会承担。1980年10月，再次恢复统计局；1986年11月，在26处乡镇设立统计站。1987年4月，改称为市统计局。
