    1956年1月，兰烟铁路建成通车，横贯莱阳，境内始有铁路客货运输。此后，又相继建起5条铁路专用线。至1987年底，每天有5对特快、直快及普通客运列车经莱阳站上行直达济南、北京、上海、青岛，下行直达烟台，有18对货运列车在莱阳火车站甩挂车辆作业。仅莱阳火车站年发送旅客达40万余人次，年货物发送量31.9万吨，年货物到达量87.5万吨。
