    民国时期，境内农业生产，主要靠人力、畜力，农具简陋，手工操作，劳动强度大，生产效率低。建国后，于50年代推广新式农具，并始用部分农业机械；60年代，农机具逐年增加，部分旧农具渐被淘汰；70年代，农机大发展，到80年代，在农业生产的各主要环节使用机械作业较为普遍。1987年有农机总动力23.8万千瓦，耕地亩均0.20千瓦。全市共有拖拉机5740台，配套农具13442台，共有农机人员21009人，其中，拖拉机驾驶员6098人，农具手7443人，农机座机手1993人，修理工2898人，其他业务人员2577人。
