    清初，黄县始有当铺。乾隆、嘉庆年间，典当业最盛。1756年(清乾隆二十一年)，县内有当铺12家，光绪年间有13家，民国初年，城里尚有6家。1926年(民国15年)，驻军方荣昌部纵兵抢劫，当铺倒闭。
　　1934年秋，在黄城西阁外，“汇丰当”开业，当铺行月息3％，期限1年。利高期短，生意不昌，于1936年关闭。
　　黄县巨富丁百万，在清代以当业致富，闻名遐迩。
