    20至30年代中期，海洋捕捞生产兴旺，劳力不足始从外地雇用。尤以春季打风网时雇用最多，年平均达500人左右。主要来自掖县、寿光、昌邑、平度、高密和诸城等地。
    日伪军侵占长岛期间，岛内捕捞业开始衰落，雇用劳力的数量逐渐减少。到1947年，仅有部分捻船工在维修船只期间进岛打短工。
