        1987年5月，牟平县政府开始筹建烟台化纤厂，同年10月县财政局印制“烟台化纤厂建设债券”10万张，面值100元，总计1000万元，向全县发行筹资。1991年11月，化纤厂建成投产，主导产品有“长宇”牌100D、135D、150DPOY丝（预取向丝，又称高速纺丝）及150DDTY丝（拉伸变形丝）、68DFDY丝（全拉伸丝）等，年产半成品POY丝4000吨，成品DTY丝3000吨，FDY丝2000吨。至1998年，累计生产涤纶长丝25000吨。1999年12月，被嘉兴龙燕纺织有限公司租赁。
