      境内发电始于20世纪30年代。50年代末至60年代末，大部分公社机关和牟平农械厂、车轮厂、水泥厂、榨油厂等购置小型发电机组发电照明。1968年，县供电所成立，牟平电力工业正式创立。1978～2000年，牟平电力工业进入快速发展时期。乡、村、户通电率分别在1976、1984、1987年达到100%。
