    1952年，县人民政府始设体育运动委员会，为临时机构，1956年改为常设机构，与文教科合署办公。1958年10月，福山县并入烟台市，县体委并入烟台市体委。1962年4月复县后，体委遂又恢复，与文教局合署办公。1967年，“文化大革命”开始后，体委撤销。1972年，设体育局。1977年，改为体育运动委员会。1983年11月，更名为烟台市福山区体育运动委员会，设正、副主任各1名，工作人员11名。
    1921年，县设国术馆，地址在今图书馆前院，有房3.5间。该馆主要向在校青少年学生和社会上武术爱好者传授武技。1938年闭馆。
