    明清时期，县衙征集民工养护驿道。1932年，县政府设养路班房，雇用长期民工养护公路。建国后，1951年，始设公路管理站，配备国家养路工人。60年代初，设专职技术员，对公路维修和养护进行技术指导。1969年，10处公社均设立养路道班，共有养路职工34人。1971年，建立群众养路队伍，雇用农村养路员288名。80年代，县公路站始配备专业工程师，养护队伍素质较前提高。1985年，全区有国家养路职工10人，农村养路员225名。
