    1953年第一次人口普查时，境内总人口124877人，其中男63687人，占总人口的51%，女61190人，占总人口的49%。1964年第二次人口普查时，全区总人口154221人，其中男78892人，占总人口的51.1%；女75329人，占总人口的48.9%。1982年第三次人口普查时，全区总人口220294人，其中男112465人，占总人口的51.1%，女107829人，占总人口的48.9%。1985年全区总人口226708人，其中男116428人，占总人口51.3%，女110280人，占总人口的48.7%。
