    新中国成立后，推行殡葬改革制度。1956年，以村或公社为单位，规划公墓，迁坟上山， 平地深埋，绿化坟地。1974年，沂源县火化场建成。9月，实行火化，开始改变沿袭几千年的土葬习俗， 到年底火化遗体542具。1976年，火化2822具，占死亡人数的85％。1979年，旧的殡葬习谷抬头，火化率下降，1981年为1168具。经宣传教育，1985年火化率开始回升，当年火化率为81％。1990年，死亡3262人，火化2976具，火化率占91％。
