    建县前，无人口状况记载。
    1944年5月，沂源县建立时，全县人口为180000人。
    1949年新中国成立时， 全县有55035户， 230985人， 其中男118156人，  女
112829人；农业人口229574人，非农业人口1411人。
    1953年， 全国第一次人口普查时，全县有61331户，258364人，其中男131560
人，女126804人；农业人口256089人，非农业人口2275人。
    1964年， 全国第二次人口普查时，全县有81600户，365000人，其中男186000
人，女179000人；农业人口357000人，非农业人口8000人。
    1982年，全国第三次人口普查时，全县有131090户，524913人，其中男267433
人，女257480人；农业人口492760人，非农业人口32153人。
    1990年， 全国第四次人口普查时， 全县有563296人， 其中男286192人， 女
277104人；农业人口504968人，非农业人口58328人。
