    建国初期，城区只有部分街道设有路灯。1965年，索镇大街西段沿街设
短臂白炽灯25盏。1979年始，沿城内张北路段、索镇大街、中心大街、镇府
街等主要交通要道安装长臂琵琶水银灯190盏。1985年，又在索镇大街、张北
路口、中心大街至新民预制厂段，安装双臂钠灯42盏。至1987年，城区共安
装各式路灯232盏，居民户户都用上了白炽灯或荧光灯。
