    民国7年全县人口130534人， 每平方公里27.8人，以后全县人口密度逐年增
加， 到1947年，全县人口为247282人，每平方公里为315.8人，又经过了35年，
到1982年，全区辖18个人民公社，443514人，城区包括：八陡、福山、博城、五
龙、 山头等5个公社， 城市人口201455人， 每平方公里2678.9人，  农村人口
242059人，每平方公里为398.9人。
