    胶南境内多低山丘陵，柞岚面积曾达数十万亩。历史是就是重要的蚕业生产基地。
缫丝、丝织业是民间的重要手工业。1951年，胶州实业公司在市美建益民缫丝厂，有
职工36人， 日产蚕丝360两。后改为胶南县缫丝厂，1959年迁入县城。时有主缫机30
台，缫丝机30台，日产丝3000余两，产品出口东南亚诸国和几内亚、英国等。60年代
停产。
