章丘市总面积1719平方公里。境内田土肥饶，山清水秀，系“龙山文化发现地和命名地”。9000多年前，就有人类
繁衍居住。 汉景帝四年（公元前153年），始建阳丘县，驻地迴军镇（今绣惠街道回村）。后历经变迁，至北齐置
高唐县。 隋开皇十六年（596年），以“博州亦有高唐”改称章丘县，取城（旧章丘城，今绣惠街道）北山为名。
1958年8月， 县驻地迁往明水。1992年8月，撤县设市。2016年12月，撤章丘市设章丘区。年底，辖11个街道、9个
镇，892个行政村（高官寨镇13个村除外），17个居。总人口1029858人。
