    清末至民国时期，境内婚姻基本是一夫一妻，富豪权贵人家多有纳妾，贫穷人家子弟不少是终身难婚。婚龄无统一规定，一般婚龄偏小。夫丧妻可以再娶，妻丧夫不得再嫁。离婚形式多是“休妻”，女子被休后不许改嫁。
    1951年随着《中华人民共和国婚姻法》贯彻实施，废除了旧的婚姻制度，实行婚姻自由，一夫一妻，男女平等，规定男20岁、女18岁为最低婚龄。1981年执行修改后的《中华人民共和国婚姻法》，规定最低婚龄男22岁，女20岁。自此形成了新的婚姻观念。
