    1962年，本区开始把计划生育工作列入卫生工作范围。1971年5月，设立地区计划生育办公室。1981年10月，改为计划生育局。1984年，改为计划生育委员会（以下简称“计生委”）。各县（市）也建立了和地区相应的领导机构。据1985年统计，全区有计划生育工作人员10227人。其中专职2773人，兼职6837人，雇用617人。
