    一、人口密度
    1982年，本区每平方公里为439人，比全国每平方公里人口密度105人高3.1倍，比本省每平方公里人口密度493人少54人，与1964年本区每平方公里317人相比，增加122人，增长率为38.2%，平均每年增长1.8%。
    二、人口分布
    1985年，本区总人口为5689360人，其中农村人口为5195666人，占全区总人口的91.33%；城镇人口（非农业）493694人，占全区总人口的8.67%。与1949年相比，农村人口增长33.06%，城镇人口增长4倍多。城镇人口增长率高于农村，增长速度最快的为地区所在地德州市。该市1985年总人口为276170人，农业人口114828人，城镇人口161342人。与1949年相比，人口增长117223人，农业人口增长34470人，城镇人口增加128155人。
