    本区古代有驰道、驿道、官马大道。从明代开始，福州官路和广东官路就贯穿本区南北。从民国初年，公路和铁路，逐渐发展为南北通道的北段中枢，故有“九达天衢”、“神京门户”之称。建国后，交通事业迅速发展，以德州市为中心，公路、铁路四通八达。
