    境内居民历来以农业为主。 明代嘉靖年间，全县48160人中，除工匠40人、县衙
内服务人员400人左右外， 其余皆从事农业。清代光绪末年，全县458399人中，从事
士、工、商者10918人。民国时期，崇尚实业，除从
事农业者外，其他行业人数逐渐增多。建国后，人口有农业与非农业之分。15岁(含)
以上人口中有在业与非在业之分。 1964年，有农业人口688270人、非农业人口24482
人。  1Q8R9年，有农业人口912060人、非农业人口 110645人，在业人口522064人、
非在业人口 107119人。1987年，有农业人口919650人、非农业人口154377人。
