    莱芜地处山东腹地，古齐鲁长城横跨北部边界，今磁莱、辛泰铁路连接津浦、胶
济铁路交会于莱城，国家公路与地方公路形成网络，纵贯横穿，一向为兵家必争之地。
古代有著名的长勺之战，现代有威震中外的莱芜战役； 抗日战争时期是沂蒙山抗日根
据地的屏障，建国后仍是国防纵深战略要地。
