打假工作始于1992年。时年成立法制科，负责市区并指导全市打假工作。1995年成立威海市技术监督稽查所，受威海市技术监督局委托履行行政执法职能，主要负责流通领域打假工作。2002年技术监督系统查处市区质量违法案件1514起，查处假冒伪劣货值12700余万元，窝点129个。打假工作的深入开展，维护了企业和消费者的权益，创造了良好的市场竞争环境。
