    明代卫所卫所之设始于明代，境内设成山、靖海两卫，设宁津、寻山两所，外防
入侵，内保治安。
    兵房清雍正十三年(1735年)，荣成建县，县属设兵房，主掌兵马卫边，护县城治
安。清咸丰四年(1854年)，县署举办联庄团练，俗称乡兵。
