清道光二十年 (1840年) ，济宁直隶州总人口为504287人。其中男性264746人，女性
239541人，男女性别比例为105∶100。
    1919年，境内总人口为2077990人。其中男性1113902人，女性964088人，男女性
别比例为115.5∶100。
    1949年， 境内总人口为3205000人，其中男性1603000人，女性1602000人，男女
性别比例为100.06∶100。 与建国前相比，男女性别比例已趋于平衡。1957年，男女
性别比例为101.98∶100。1961年为102.65∶100。到1964年人口普查时，济宁专区总
人口为4073388人， 其中男性2073301人，女性2000087人，男女性别比例为103.66∶
100， 已经开始倾斜。 1970年男女性别比例为103.81∶100，1975年为104.5∶100，
1988年为105.02∶100。
    到1982年再次人口普查时，济宁地区总人口为5613406人，其中男性2877847人，
女性2735559人， 男女性别比例为105.21∶100， 已经失衡。1983年为106.1∶100，
1988年为107.82∶100。到1990年又一次人口普查时，济宁总人口为7267280人，其中
男性3726838人， 女性3540442人，男女性别比例为105.26∶100。男多于女的现象稍
