    本市自从1972年开始引种甜菜。主要产区分布于薛城区常庄、夏庄、临城，滕县大坞、姜屯、峄
庄、界河等乡镇，均为地力较好的平原地区。
    甜菜种植面积历来很少， 平均每年4000亩， 最少的1972年和1973年开始引种时只有20亩， 最多的
1979年1.2万亩。甜菜产量，一般亩产3000至4000斤。最高的1980年亩产5042斤。
