    体长。上颌口缘仅由前颌骨构成。无中乌喙骨和眶蝶骨。左右下咽骨完全愈合。
米克尔氏骨退化，但常可自外方见到。体被圆鳞。侧线位低，靠近腹缘。各鳍无鳍
棘。背鳍一个，在臀鳍上方。腹鳍腹位，具6鳍条。胸鳍位高。 上下肋骨与横突相
连接。鳔无管。肠直。无幽门盲囊。大都为上层鱼类。在山东沿海的海岛附近海草
丛生处常形成渔汛，有一定经济价值。
