    春秋末年鲁国人。字伯牛。为人端庄正派，善于
待人接物。在孔子弟子中，以德行与颜渊、闵子骞并称。因恶疾早逝。孔子哀
叹其“亡之，命矣夫！”（《雍也》）唐开元二十七年（７３９年）追封为“
郓侯”。宋大中祥符二年（１００９年）改封“东平公”。南宋咸淳三年（１
２６７年）改封为“郓公”。明嘉靖九年（１５３０年）改称“先贤冉子”。
