    1985年成立的山东大学加拿大研究中心以研究加拿大的文学、历史为主要方向，
得到了加拿大驻华使馆的支持。研究中心副主任郭继德于1979年和1988年两次赴加拿
大专门研究加拿大文学。他的《加拿大文学简史》(河南人民出版社1992年)是国内第
一部加拿大文学史。此外，郭继德在加拿大英语戏剧史、美加文学比较、弗赖文学理
论等方面也有深入研究。
