    烟台市辖区。位于烟台市北部，北濒黄海，东、南邻牟平区，西与福山区、芝罘
区毗连。面积258平方公里，人口15.6万。辖初家、黄海路、滨海路3个街道办事处，
莱山、解甲庄2镇。区人民政府驻初家。
    1994年7月3日，经国务院批准，由牟平区析出莱山镇、解甲庄镇，由芝罘区析出
初家镇，设置莱山区，为烟台市辖区(同年12月27日正式成立莱山区人民政府)。
