　　县的行政长官称知县。知县掌一县之政令，综理县内诉讼审办、田赋税务、缉
盗除奸、文教农桑等一切政务。据《清朝通典》所记，知县的职掌为：“平赋役、
听治讼、兴教化、厉风俗。凡养民、祀神、贡士、读法，皆躬亲厥职而勤理之。”
　　县的佐贰官县丞和主簿，辅佐知县掌粮马、税征、户籍、巡捕诸务。凡不设县
丞和主簿的县，其职由县典史兼领。
